“Quarter-sized snowflakes began to filter through the alder, willow and quaking aspens as we were packing out two large mature bull moose. My best friend, partner and wife was tired from the long days spotting and stalking bull moose in the Alasksa wilderness. Our ulitmate goal of getting a trophy moose had been realized and we had doubled on two 60-inch monarchs. We would have more than enough wild game for our crew of seven kids who enjoy the outdoors about as much as we do.

How were we so lucky to afford such a hunt? Well, some would say destiny and others would say good fortune. Becky and I would say a blessing from heaven.

Relaxing in our living room in preparation for a busy weekend of taking kids to soccer games, school fundraisers and plays, I picked up my Turkey Call magazine and came across the Weatherby Dream Hunt sweepstakes. I jumped up and went to the laundry room hollering, ‘Hey babe, where would you like to go on a hunt with me if we could go anywhere?’ You can imagine the look I got while she was sorting through the clean clothes and finishing up her fifth load of laundry for the day since she was home with one of the kids who has had a 102 degree fever for the last two days.

Africa was mentioned, hunting grizzlies (but who would feed the kids when we didn’t return from these adventures?), or a caribou hunt and even an elk hunt. Then she looked at me and said, ‘No, a moose hunt to Alaska would be my dream hunt.’ So, we would go to the great state of Alaska (my wife and I) to pursue trophy bull moose if we were given the choice.

The ultimate part of this hunt would be the opportunity to do some chinook and steelhead fishing on remote streams in Alaska. Becky is a production coordinator in the Northwest and has built hatcheries in Idaho and has one on line for 2008 in Oregon. To get the opporunity to pursue bull moose and the chance to catch a 50-pound king and a scrappy wild steelhead would be the punctuation on our ultimate Dream Hunt of a lifetime in Alaska.”
