“My Weatherby Dream Hunt would be with my son who is currently 13 years old. We reside in Franklin, Indiana, and over the past few years have been vacationing when we can to the west. We both have fallen in love with the Rocky Mountain region. On one of our latest trips, Clayton, my son, had the greatest appreciation and awe of the pronghorn antelope, mule deer and elk. I could not say how many times since then that he has said he hopes that we can take a hunting trip to pursue either of them.
So as for a location, I would love for us to hunt in the Wyoming area. We were there this past summer for a vacation and the wildlife that we saw was amazing. Both of us were talking about how great it would be to either take a hunting trip or move there, so we could spend the time together hunting.
I started him hunting two years ago and he loves nothing better than the time spent in the woods and fields. He, as of now, still has not taken his first deer or turkey. As for any child in the beginning, he was bored. Once he caught on to watching the woods come alive in the mornings he has been hooked. I am hoping that this year he will get his first deer. We have hunted deer, turkey, and dove so far. He enjoys all of the hunting time he can get in. In the next year, we both will be archery hunting for the first time.
As a father, I appreciate the time that we get to spend in the woods together. Not only do I get to pass down my experiences to him, he builds his own. Also the memories that we make on the hunts will never be forgotten. Hunting has been a great thing for us to do as he grows. I feel that it keeps us close together and it has also built great friendships with other hunters for both of us. He loves being around firearms and bows.
Three years ago he joined 4-H shooting sports and has had a blast with that. I also enjoyed the time with him and the other kids. So much that I went through the training and became a certified shotgun instructor so I can help with introducing other children to firearm safety, shooting and hunting.
I would like to be able to have us both go to Wyoming on this dream hunt. It would definitely be a memory that we could share and talk about for many years to come.”
