“My dream hunt would be a Montana waterfowl/upland game combo with my two favorite hunting buddies...my 12-year-old stepdaughter, Katie, and my labrador, Kody. Katie is fairly new to hunting and shot her first squirrel last fall. She completed the Indiana hunter education course with flying colors and continues to amaze me with her attention to safety and the beauty of the outdoors.
The hunt itself would be in the open prairie region of central Montana. We would hunt waterfowl in the mornings and upland game in the mid-day. The game would be plentiful, but not so plentiful that Katie would begin to take it for granted. It's important to me that she learns the respect for the outdoors and does her part to preserve it when she gets older. We would sit in the duck blind, watching the sun rise every day while the ducks descended to our decoys. We would flush sharptail grouse with the Rocky Mountains as our background. And back at the lodge, we would end each day with a prayer, thanking God for our time together and the blessing we call nature.
As you can see, it wouldn't take much for me to have the hunt of a lifetime. Days afield with Katie are precious to me, whether they are spent in the pheasant fields of Montana or the squirrel woods of Indiana. Every hunt with my children is the hunt of a lifetime.”
