“My dream hunt would be a trip to Colorado or New Mexico to hunt for a trophy bull elk. I live in Florida and have never even seen an elk. I watch all the hunting shows and I think that it would be the greatest endeavor in my life to track down and call a bull into shooting range. I have a few friends who have taken elk and they have told me if I go, I will never want to come back to Florida.
If I were to be chosen for the hunt, I would take my wife as she is my best friend and hunting partner. I would like for her to maybe film me as the action takes place, and to see firsthand just how big a bull elk is in real life.
We hunt mainly whitetail deer, wild hogs and turkey in northwest Florida where we live, and hunting is my passion. I live to hunt and I am like a kid on Christmas eve on the day before opening morning. I am not really what you would call a trophy hunter…the deer here are not too big, and we hunt to provide meat for our family, but the main reason I go hunting is to just enjoy God’s beautiful world and watch nature in living color…not on TV. I go almost every afternoon after work and every weekend that I can, and take a few deer each year, but the peace and quiet of being outdoors makes it so worth it. It is a release from all the hustle and bustle of the hectic work week and the best prescription for well-being in my book.
If I am chosen, I would like to do a rifle hunt with a good guide who knows the area…maybe a drop camp and really enjoy nature up close and personal. I would even like to do the cooking out there as I love to cook almost as much as hunt (almost).
I know my wife would also enjoy the trip, and if possible, she would also like to take a big boy too, but would be happy just being with me enjoying the beauty of the woods and all that lives there.
Please consider me for this hunt as it would truly be the hunt of my lifetime…it would be the only way I could ever afford to go as we pretty much live week to week just to make ends meet, but we still love life to the fullest and thank God for everything we have.
