“My dream hunt all deals with America. I am a Social Studies teacher who works with Homebound Children in Madison County, Alabama. This job is only part-time, even though I am a certified, highly qualified teacher. My other job is as a cashier for Publix supermarket. So I don’t have a great deal of money to spend on anything short of bills, food and rent. But all my life, I have wanted to own a Weatherby magnum and go out west to hunt. So, my dream hunt is that of several categories:
First, the right gun for the game I am hunting. In this case, it would be the .340 Weatherby magnum, because my dream hunt would be for elk. There is no finer choice for that size animal than the .340 Mag. Also, I love the fact that the Weatherby Mark V rifle, is made in America.
Second, the right people to enjoy this hunt with me have always had my respect. I would like very much to have Ed Weatherby go on this hunt with me. I cannot think of a person who has lived the life of a hunter to the extent Ed has been privileged. Ed is the consummate gentleman, sportsman and family man for whom I have always respected and admired.
My wife would be the other individual who I would want on this hunt. She has always supported me. Even though she does not hunt herself, she would provide me with the support a man needs when faced with adversity. No matter the outcome of the hunt, she would share the thrill just as much as if she were actively involved. Each day upon returning to the lodge, she would greet the two of us with great enthusiasm, encouragement and respect for our efforts. She would really enjoy the beautiful scenery and the remoteness of the area.
Third, the majestic elk is one of the greatest American trophy game animals that walks our beautiful Nation. The areas where this animal is hunted has breathtaking scenery and allows the hunter to really get close to nature. The old hunters who helped to carve out our great Nation, were given a special gift from God when they entered into the areas where our elk call home.
The opportunity to hunt elk, with Ed Weatherby and use one of his family’s truly great rifles, in one of our western states would be more than the all time Dream Hunt. This would be an ‘All American Dream Hunt.’”
